Briefings — all flight deck briefings in aviation — are near and dear to my heart. In my opinion briefings are “make or break.” Brief the takeoff correctly; and if you have an emergency, you’re ready for it. Brief the approach thoroughly and systematically; and you’ll be set up and prepared with no gotchas. The opposite is also true: failing to properly brief is nearly always a precursor to trouble.
