Yours truly!

Event Title: CFI Professional Development Seminar – Passing the Practical Test
Date and Time: Thursday, August 22, 2019, starting at 19:00 (7:00PM) Eastern Daylight Time

This summer, the Teterboro FAASTeam will host a 2 hour professional development seminar for all instructors to discuss new and recurring issues in Flight and Ground Training.

The presentation will begin with introductory remarks from Don Argintar on TFRs and the ACS. Designated Pilot Examiners (DPE) Greg Hill and Ryan Ferguson will then host an open forum discussion about issues that commonly arise during the administration of FAA Practical Tests.

Topics include best practices in the use of the Airman Certification Standards, the impact and importance of training scenarios in developing ADM and risk analysis, log book endorsements, tips and suggestions when preparing applicants for a checkride, and building your very own “Checkride Toolkit” to enhance your students’ experience and performance.

This will be a fast-paced, interactive, and (with your help) fun event!

This is your opportunity to engage directly with the evaluators. We encourage you to share your knowledge and experiences with your colleagues, and we also encourage you to bring your students for a shared learning experience at this knowledge-rich event. If you know of any CFIs that are not registered on FAASafety.gov, please invite them to the seminar. CFIs and pilots of all certificate levels are invited to attend. Walk-ins are welcome if space is available!

Up your instructing game and help your students be better prepared for their checkrides!

** Pizza will be provided! **

Join us for a fun and informative evening. Be an active participant in promoting aviation safety and enhancing checkride performance!

International Flight Plans

From the FAA:

“The FAA will implement flight plan filing for civil aircraft using a format that aligns with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. The new format appears on FAA Form 7233-4, FAA International Flight Plan (Revision 7/2015). Aligning our flight plan similar to the ICAO format will allow integration of new capabilities such as Performance Based Navigation (PBN).”

Here’s a link to the new form; and here’s a link to simplified instructions on how to fill it out.

WINGS Topic of the Quarter – Spring 2019

FAASTeam TV’s “Soaring with Wings” is a 4-minute explanation of how WINGS works.

Spring is in full swing so it’s time to think about doing some proficiency training to keep things safe in the flying season ahead.  And what better way to do that than to participate in WINGS, the FAA’s Pilot Proficiency Program for pilots. Pilots in the WINGS program expand their knowledge by taking online courses or attending seminars/webinars in addition to performing specific flight activities to refresh their flying skills.

  • The knowledge topic for spring is Aeronautical Decision Making.  You can access the online course at https://bit.ly/2G0TY0r.  Be sure to log on to your FAASafety.gov account to enroll in the course.
  • Spring is also a great time to prepare for the summer flying season with a Takeoffs, Landings and Go-arounds review with your flight instructor. Here’s a link to the spring Flight Activity: https://bit.ly/2L1WceL.

With the FAASTeam’s recently added WINGS Topic of the Quarter (WTOQ) program, it’s now even easier to earn your next phase of WINGS. The WTOQ are preselected courses and flight activities that add up to getting a phase of WINGS. In addition to helping you sharpen your flying skills, completing a phase of WINGS also satisfies your flight review requirement, gets you a set of wings to wear on your favorite flying hat, and gives you a chance to win a cash prize!

Please note that you may also continue to select your own flight events and knowledge topics for WINGS according to your own personal preference.
